Our Programs

A focus on life skills:

Amos House is a transitional living facility serving the greater Danbury area, dedicated to ensuring that individuals and families have the opportunity to achieve the competency and productivity required for permanent, self-sufficient, independent living.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability and willingness to help themselves and accept professional guidance.  In addition, they must be without a permanent home; be referred by an agency; complete the application process; demonstrate the ability to live in a semi-communal setting; be drug-free; and commit to complete their program steps in a specific time period.  Once accepted, a program specific to the applicant's needs is developed.

Families may remain in the program for up to two years.  Components of an individualized program may include:

bullet Parenting skills
bullet Budgeting skills
bullet Self Esteem Enhancement
bullet Co-dependency Support Group
bullet Tenant Education
bullet Resume Writing
bullet Job skills identification
bullet Job training or retraining
bullet Nutrition counseling
bullet Practical help with basic living skills
bullet How-To Tools: Renting an apartment, day-care, parent/teacher relations
bullet Healthy family recreational activities

Other workshops, using external professionals, are added as needed for each individual situation.  Amos House is a model for other programs as there are very few organizations that can serve the needs of entire families.

As participants move from our transitional living program into other communities, they become our neighbors.  Their children go to school with our children and help our communities grow strong.

More than 80% of the residents who have completed the Amos House program have graduated to permanent housing.

You can help make Amos House  participants become productive members of our community through a sustaining gift of time, talent or funds.
